How to Choose a Great Tattoo Artist
Your artist is more important than the design.
You can have a perfect design and with the wrong artist,
you can end up with a crappy tatt.
Or, you can have a so-so design, and with the touch of a truly responsible and talented artist, look killer.
Here’s some helpful tips on finding a Tattoo Artist:
1 • Don’t go to the first shop you find! BAD IDEA
2 • Snoop around. Ask to see their work. You can Readily notice if the lines are smooth or ragged, if the colors are well chosen, if the proportion of the design fits the spot where it is inked.
3 • Ask people who have great tattoos where they got it.
4 • Don’t look for the cheapest, you will find it.
How to Care For My First Tattoo
1 • Stay bandaged! Don’t go ripping off the bandage to impress your friends too soon.
You need to protect the open wound from bacteria.
2 • Believe it or not: It used to be really common to cover the wound in saran wrap so that people could see the design and it could “heal” under the wraps.
PLEASE…Biker dudes are cool, but they don’t know everything…obviously. DON’T DO IT…not for a minute. It breeds infection quicker than soap produces bubbles!
3 • Speaking of soap – use some. But be gentle. Use something mild and antibacterial. Try to avoid scrubbing of any kind (you won’t like the feel of that anyway!). Use your hand and some lukewarm water along with the soap to gently remove dried fluids, etc.
4 • Dry with a clean (unused) towel and apply a light layer of ointment. It should contain Vitamins A and E for healing properties.
5 • Continue to clean and add ointment for up to 5 days.
6 • Don’t soak the tattoo in the tub until completely healed, say 2-3 weeks.
